Role Overview
Our engineering division focuses on developing the next generation of SaaS solutions for Shopify merchants, including AI-driven customer service features and SEO optimization tools. We seek motivated engineers ready to learn swiftly and contribute impactful work. This R&D Management Trainee program is ideal for early-career engineers eager to engage hands-on from the start. Supported by senior mentors, trainees will work within product teams and progressively gain autonomy to own technical modules and decisions.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop full-stack features focusing particularly on backend components such as APIs, core business logic, data workflows, and third-party service integrations.
- Engage in design discussions, implementation, testing, and deployment phases.
- Ensure high quality and completeness of delivered features.
- Support and resolve production bugs by diagnosing root causes effectively.
- Utilize tools like logging, monitoring systems, and databases to methodically trace issues.
- Contribute towards continuous enhancement of system robustness, speed, and maintainability.
- Adhere to team practices including code review, documentation, and testing rigor.
- Communicate proactively regarding project progress, potential risks, and roadblocks.
- Participate in retrospectives after releases to refine coding skills and engineering judgment.
- Gradually take on larger responsibilities and independent module ownership.
Qualifications
- Graduated recently (within 1-2 years) from a US university with a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- Demonstrated skill in at least one backend programming language, including JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, or PHP.
- Solid understanding of web fundamentals: HTTP protocol, RESTful APIs, frontend-backend interaction, and relational database concepts.
- Experience with SQL and either MySQL or PostgreSQL databases.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, debug problems systematically, and manage tasks through to completion.
- Dependable team member with clear communication, who raises issues early and honors commitments.
Preferred Extras
- Familiarity with frameworks and tools like React, Node.js, Next.js, NestJS, Python environments, PostgreSQL, Redis.
- Hands-on experience or projects in AI/LLM domains such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), chatbots, knowledge bases, or content creation.
- Background in Shopify app development, e-commerce technology, SEO tools, or SaaS products.
- Internship experience at tech or SaaS organizations or contributions to open source and personal programming portfolios.
- Knowledge of Docker, continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), or cloud platforms including AWS or Aliyun.
- Active GitHub account showcasing consistent code contributions.
- Competitive programming participation (e.g., ACM, LanQiao Cup).
- Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code.
- Ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers a starting salary range of $60,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience, with room for negotiation.
