Role Overview
We invite passionate and committed lecturers to join our Social Work program on a sessional basis, offering flexible working hours including morning, afternoon, and evening shifts at our Brisbane CBD campus near Central station. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the role emphasizes delivering quality teaching and assessments with a focus on practice-based social work subjects. Experienced educators may have the chance to teach across multiple levels, including postgraduate coursework.
Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly prepare and deliver subject content following Ikon's curriculum standards.
- Utilize experiential and authentic learning resources to engage students in both face-to-face and online settings.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancement of teaching materials and course design.
- Facilitate active student participation, address student concerns, and collaborate with relevant academic teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure coordinated delivery.
- Assess student work timely (within two weeks of submission) using provided online tools, including AI plagiarism detection software.
- Comply with academic integrity policies and support compliance through reporting and investigations.
- Monitor student attendance and engagement systematically.
- Participate in academic quality assurance activities such as moderation and benchmarking.
- Attend staff meetings and engage in student consultations when required.
- Submit teaching reports and assist with broader academic responsibilities including adherence to national accreditation frameworks and codes.
- Engage in professional development and research as guided by academic leadership.
- Adhere to all Ikon institutional policies and contribute to achieving organizational goals.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Postgraduate qualification in social work or a closely related field at an AQF level higher than that taught; alternatively, equivalent professional experience of five or more years if holding a qualification at the same AQF level.
- At least three years of practical experience in social work.
- Familiarity with higher education standards and AASW requirements.
- Updated knowledge of current social work practices and academic teaching methods.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
- Willingness to undergo background and working with children checks if necessary.
- Experience in lecturing, tutoring, or course development is advantageous.
