Position Overview

This role supports the efficient handling and processing of samples, and helps prepare and ship sampling materials. It requires working effectively in a dynamic environment while adhering to tight deadlines, with a strong focus on customer service excellence.

Key Duties

  • Prepare and process samples accurately.
  • Confirm shipments by verifying sample identification and reviewing associated paperwork.
  • Record sample IDs and analysis requests; label soil and water samples appropriately.
  • Ship samples to designated laboratory locations promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the workspace and storage areas.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks within the building.
  • Assist with general operational duties as needed.
  • Complete orders within specified turnaround times consistently.
  • Restock shipping supplies to ensure readiness.
  • Keep detailed records and documentation up to date.
  • Collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance Coordinator to ensure compliance with quality control standards.
  • Follow established procedures and schedules, applying correct methods to guarantee analytical quality.
  • Adhere to ALS’s health and safety policies and established safety regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficiency in English communication across listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Basic competency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Comfortable and confident in using computers.
  • Ability to carry out repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently in a fast-moving setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and capability to meet rigorous deadlines consistently.
  • Independent work approach balanced with being an effective team member.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and readiness to undertake varied responsibilities.
  • Client-oriented mindset dedicated to high-quality service delivery.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational attainment.
  • Warehouse or fast-paced operational experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in customer service is beneficial.
  • Valid provincial Class 5 driver's license.
  • Basic science knowledge from high school courses or familiarity with lab safety is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular lifting and transporting of weights up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Extended periods of walking, bending, and kneeling during shifts.
  • Wearing personal protective equipment such as dust masks and gloves when necessary.
  • Manual dexterity for precise and repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to stand for full-length shifts as well as perform desk-based sedentary work periodically.
  • Potential exposure to unpleasant odors.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Estimated wage around $22.73 CAD per hour, subject to individual qualifications and experience.

  • Additional vacation entitlement based on years of service.
