Role overview
Hume City Council is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-focused Application Support Analyst (Student Intern) to support end users from its Broadmeadows, Victoria site. The position is centred on resolving application-related issues, assisting with day-to-day IT support activities, and learning practical technical skills in a collaborative local government environment.
Key duties
- Handle incoming support requests through the ticketing system and provide prompt technical assistance.
- Investigate application faults, trace likely causes, and work through issues in a structured way.
- Record incidents, resolutions, and technical notes in a clear and well-organised format.
- Support the testing, rollout, and patching of application updates.
- Work with senior support team members to solve more complex technical problems.
- Keep ticket records orderly and follow up with users to confirm their issues have been resolved.
- Guide users on how to use application features and share practical best practices.
- Escalate urgent or high-impact issues to senior technical staff when required.
- Assist with new user onboarding and help provision system access.
- Contribute to support guides, documentation, and knowledge base content.
Skills and experience
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Basic knowledge of IT systems and software applications.
- Comfort working in a team-based environment.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Current student status or recent graduation.
Preferred background
- Exposure to help desk or ticket management tools.
- Familiarity with standard business software such as Microsoft Office and enterprise applications.
- Any prior customer service or technical support experience.
- Understanding of fundamental networking concepts.
- Experience using documentation or knowledge management platforms.
- Ability to tailor and troubleshoot software applications.
- Entry-level technical support experience is advantageous but not essential.
