Position Overview

We are looking for a Chemist to join our R&D team. This role demands expertise in analytical instrumentation, catalyst synthesis, and catalytic transformations. The candidate will be involved in designing synthetic routes for various bio-materials and balancing hands-on lab work with process development, product enhancement, and scale-up initiatives in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement experimental test matrices and conduct small-scale reactions using glassware techniques.
• Assist in catalyst development and design synthetic pathways for chemical targets.
• Prepare samples and execute testing protocols to assess material properties and performance.
• Analyze and interpret data to communicate scientific outcomes effectively to project teams supporting overall goals.
• Operate safely batch reactors, distillation apparatus, chemical pumps, and pressure vessels.
• Plan, design, and independently or jointly perform laboratory experiments to optimize chemical conditions and parameters.
• Handle air- and moisture-sensitive compounds using glove boxes.
• Contribute to developing standard operating procedures and prepare progress documentation.
• Maintain and operate chemical processing and testing equipment.
• Conduct research on synthetic chemistry routes and characterize materials via various techniques.
• Apply appropriate PPE to safely manage, handle, and prepare chemical substances daily.
• Support team members in safe chemical handling and management using PPE.
• Stay updated on industry advancements and novel methods in chemistry and materials characterization to improve research efficiency.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior personnel.
• Maintain comprehensive laboratory records, including notebooks and test data, complying with company documentation standards.
• Develop proficiency in laboratory and production test procedures.
• Exhibit strong communication, organizational, documentation, and computer skills, including expertise in Microsoft Office.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with 3 to 7 years experience in organic chemistry; Master's in Organic Chemistry preferred with 2 to 5 years relevant industry or academic experience.
• Experience in biorefinery, petroleum, or chemical sectors is highly advantageous.
• Compliance with OSHA respirator use requirements, including ability to pass fit testing and maintain appropriate facial hair standards.
• Experience with hand and power tools is necessary.
• Strong foundation in chemical principles, project management, and mentoring skills is a plus.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills with ability to analyze and present experimental data clearly.
• Proficient in general computer and web-based applications.
• Proven success in teamwork environments emphasizing accountability, detail orientation, collaboration, and results.
• Highly organized with a proactive and self-motivated work approach, consistently driving scientific and operational objectives.

Physical Requirements

Tasks may include frequent lifting of items up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching overhead, climbing stairs, pulling, and prolonged standing or sitting. Adherence to safety policies and use of company-provided PPE is mandatory.
