Job description
Overview
Our public sector client is seeking a skilled Database Administrator for an initial 12-month contract, with potential for extension. This remote role requires occasional attendance at client sites and involves managing the client's SQL database infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Assist in overseeing and supporting the SQL database environment for client projects.
- Participate in migrating databases from unsupported servers to modern environments.
- Lead efforts on database upgrades and consolidation initiatives.
- Administer database security permissions and access controls.
- Perform on-demand database backups and restorations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity problems.
- Manage SQL Server installation, upgrades, configuration, and migrations.
- Apply necessary software service packs and cumulative updates.
- Monitor and maintain database storage and resource allocation.
- Oversee database maintenance schedules including backups, indexing, and statistics updates.
Deliverables
- Conduct health check assessments of SQL database estate across regions.
- Identify SQL Servers and databases, documenting configurations, versions, dependencies, and backup availability.
- Validate backup restoration capabilities through testing.
- Analyze storage and configuration requirements for databases.
- Manage migration processes to National Data Centre locations including configuration of new SQL Servers and instances, patch application, database transfers, and rollback planning.
- Perform post-migration tasks such as continuous monitoring, documentation updates, and decommissioning of obsolete SQL Servers.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Minimum 2 years of proven experience as a SQL Database Administrator.
- Expertise in setting up, managing, and monitoring replicated SQL database environments.
- Strong understanding of database security, backup/recovery procedures, and performance monitoring best practices.
- Ability to maintain business continuity via replication and recovery mechanisms.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting is advantageous.
- Experience developing stored procedures, views, and functions.

Additional Information
This role encompasses a 35-hour workweek and is offered as an agency position with a remuneration of €32.02 per hour, equating to an annual salary of approximately €58,477. Employees accrue 30 days of annual leave plus paid public holidays.
The position may require Garda Vetting and Foreign Police Clearance where applicable before starting employment.
