Position Overview

We seek a dedicated and motivated Environment Artist to enhance the visuals of an upcoming unannounced project. This mid-level role offers ownership of props and entire levels, partnering closely with level designers and technical artists. Autonomy and a proactive, curious approach are essential, as is the capability to develop original creative ideas and provide feedback on outsourced work.

Location and Support

This position is based onsite at our studios in Oxford, Warwick, or Runcorn, each fostering a creative and collaborative workplace. Comprehensive relocation assistance is available, including moving support, temporary housing, and full guidance to ensure a smooth transition.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan spatial layouts integrating narrative and visual storytelling, documenting design intentions.
• Work in close collaboration with level designers to create immersive environments.
• Produce functional assets adhering to technical and artistic specifications, shareable project-wide.
• Maintain and update progress using designated tracking systems daily.
• Engage with stakeholders to align work direction and ensure consistency.
• Collaborate with technical and senior artists to uphold technical and artistic standards, implementing alterations as needed.
• Incorporate feedback from producers and project leads into deliverables.
• Interpret game design documents to thoroughly understand environments, objectives, mood, storyline, and artistic style.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience in a professional game development setting, including scene profiling and optimization for current-generation platforms.
• Proficiency with 3D modeling software, preferably Blender.
• Familiarity with Substance Painter, physically based rendering (PBR) workflows, and baking high-to-low resolution textures.
• Ability to produce clean, game-ready assets with correct texel density and geometry.
• Strong sense of composition, scale, and lighting.
• Professional presentation skills, adaptability to directional changes, and openness to learning new workflows and systems.
• A portfolio demonstrating professional, realistic style props and environments or dioramas within a game engine.
• Background in fine arts is advantageous but not mandatory.
