Environmental Field Technician

About the Role

The Environmental Field Technician will carry out a variety of field tasks including geomorphic assessments, stream observations, instream monitoring, and upkeep of monitoring sites. Responsibilities also encompass processing field data and compiling reports. This role supports internal teams on projects in geomorphology, restoration design, erosion, and hazard analysis.

Position Details

• Hourly wage between $23 and $32
• Minimum of 40 hours per week
• Work location at 83 Little Bridge Street, Unit 12, Almonte, ON, K0A 1A0
• Frequent travel to field sites in the Ottawa area
• Department: Watershed Monitoring
• Work from home options available as directed by management

Key Duties

• Execute fieldwork related to geomorphological and environmental monitoring, erosion control, and restoration projects
• Set up, service, and troubleshoot environmental equipment including water level loggers and turbidity sensors
• Accurately gather and record field data to meet company and industry standards
• Conduct topographic surveys utilizing RTK and total stations
• Facilitate sediment sampling, vegetation and riverbank assessments, among other geomorphic evaluations
• Organize and analyze data with Excel, GIS platforms, and statistical software
• Maintain precise field notes and logs for reporting and quality control
• Adhere to safety protocols to reduce risks in outdoor environments
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines
• Collaborate with various teams and coordinate schedules and deliverables
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Candidate Requirements

• Degree or diploma in environmental science, geomorphology, physical geography, earth sciences, geomatics, geology or related discipline
• One to two years experience in environmental fieldwork, preferably focused on geomorphology or river systems
• Experience with field equipment such as RTK GPS units, total stations, water level and discharge loggers, and water quality meters
• Able to work outdoors in challenging terrain and various weather conditions
• Strong organizational skills and meticulous data documentation
• Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and data processing is advantageous
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
• Self-motivated with ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Physically capable of carrying equipment and walking for extended periods
• Possession of a valid G Class driver's license with willingness to travel for field assignments
