Position Overview
We are looking for a freelance Video Editor experienced in documentary-style and commercial video production, focusing on political, advocacy, and branded content. You will edit 2-3 minute, interview-focused videos, collaborating closely with creative briefs, transcripts, and reference materials. Projects involve working with 60 to 90 minutes of interview footage, combining b-roll and archival clips, and crafting engaging narratives under tight schedules. The work demands a sharp sense of storytelling, proficiency with 4K cinema-camera footage, and adapting edits for multiple formats such as vertical social media cutdowns. This role is urgent with quick turnarounds of 2 to 4 days per project and may lead to ongoing work.
Responsibilities
- Select and organize interview, b-roll, and archival material to create compelling stories
- Perform detailed picture editing to ensure clarity and engagement
- Apply color correction and grading to log footage for a polished look
- Clean and balance audio tracks for consistency and clarity
- Source and incorporate suitable music tracks
- Develop basic motion graphics when needed
- Deliver final videos in required formats, including vertical cutdowns for social media
- Maintain effective communication with project teams and meet deadlines
- Handle politically and advocacy-driven content confidently
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated experience editing documentary and commercial interview-based videos
- Strong storytelling abilities and narrative structuring skills
- Experience with 4K and cinema-quality footage
- Ability to color grade and professionally mix audio
- Familiarity with basic motion graphics production
- Proficient with DaVinci Resolve preferred, Adobe Premiere acceptable
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Self-motivated, able to meet strict deadlines
- Comfortable with politically sensitive and advocacy-related projects
- Available for fast project turnarounds (2 to 4 days)
- Portfolio or samples of relevant work required
