Role overview
This position is responsible for examining, repairing, and maintaining the electrical and mechanical parts linked to generator stator and rotor windings. The role calls for strong familiarity with rotating equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct faults efficiently.
Key duties
- Use a range of mechanical and electrical tools, and where needed operate powered equipment such as stationary belt or disc sanders.
- Support the taking and logging of measurements for stator or field components.
- Assist with fiberglass tapping tasks.
- Work under the guidance of the Winding Work Leader.
- Carry out daily point-of-work risk checks and safety observations.
- Track and submit daily working time records.
- Help maintain a safe workplace by following good housekeeping standards in the assigned area and observing all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Prepare tools and parts for work as instructed.
- Perform Lock Out Tag Out activities according to site procedures.
- Handle additional duties assigned by Working Leaders or other reasonable requests from GE Vernova.
Required background and capabilities
Applicants should have a high school diploma or a technical college diploma with at least 2 years of classroom training in Industrial Maintenance and Electrical Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience in industrial electrical work, industrial or manufacturing maintenance, or composites technology. A minimum of 3 years in the power generator industry is required.
The job also requires a valid driver’s license, readiness to work rotating shifts, and the ability to climb ladders and work at heights. Candidates must be able to walk or stand for up to 12 hours, lift up to 22 kg, and complete physical and other assessments for hearing and respirator use at hire and annually.
Other essential abilities include using and reading measurement instruments such as inside/outside micrometers and dial calipers/indicators, interpreting technical instructions, and following all applicable environmental, health, and safety policies.
Additional strengths that will help
A technical diploma or trade certificate as a winder, the ability to pass a drug screen and background check, a collaborative approach to day-to-day work and safety tasks, composure under pressure, adaptability to changing work scopes, strong communication skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and prior industrial winding shop experience will be considered advantageous.
