IT Project Manager

About the Role

This position is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and successful delivery of cybersecurity projects within or supporting the Security Operations Center (SOC). The job bridges communication among security analysts, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to ensure complex security initiatives progress on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily SOC operations to guarantee effective detection and response to cybersecurity threats.
• Oversee full project lifecycle management including scope, scheduling, budgeting, risk assessment, and stakeholder communication.
• Maintain a risk register to track and mitigate project risks proactively.
• Document security monitoring and incident response using case management and ticketing tools; prepare analytical reports and briefings.
• Lead and develop a cybersecurity team encouraging collaboration and high performance.
• Coordinate activities across SOC analysts (levels 1 to 3), threat intelligence, incident response (IR), and red team functions.
• Remove obstacles and enforce accountability for smooth project execution without micromanaging.
• Develop and implement SOC policies and procedures aligned with federal and industry standards.
• Ensure project compliance with cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework, MITRE ATT&CK, ISO 27001, and SOC 2.
• Translate complex technical security findings into business-friendly status updates and risk posture reports.
• Act as liaison between technical experts and business stakeholders to ensure alignment and clarity on project goals.

Experience and Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience managing a Security Operations Center and leading incident response operations.
• Proven record of successfully delivering security projects on time and within established scope.
• Well-versed in cybersecurity frameworks, risk management practices, and SOC technologies.
• Hands-on familiarity with SIEM platforms such as Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, or IBM QRadar, along with SOAR tools and ticketing systems.
• Experience working within Agile frameworks like Scrum or Kanban.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification strongly preferred.
• Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CompTIA Security+ are advantageous but not replacements for project management skills.

Additional Information

• This role is not a hands-on SOC analyst position; incident triage is not a responsibility here.
• It is not a bureaucratic PMO role focused only on producing schedules; candidates must possess sufficient security knowledge to critically assess technical inputs.
• This is not a title promotion for a team lead without prior cross-functional project delivery experience.
