Role Overview
This position leads mechanical engineering work for process and utility packages, with a focus on delivering design and engineering outputs on time, within budget, and with strong safety and quality controls. The role is based in Ahmedabad and involves close coordination with suppliers, consultants, internal engineering teams, and site execution teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical engineering scope for process and utility packages such as water systems, gas systems, air separation units, process exhaust, purified water, effluent treatment, sewage treatment, HVAC, and similar facilities.
- Work with EPC partners, engineering vendors, and consultants to ensure engineering and design activities are completed on schedule.
- Develop plant layouts at both conceptual and detailed engineering stages.
- Handle metallic and non-metallic piping systems, including high-purity and ultra-high-purity services.
- Review engineering design basis, tender documents, technical bid evaluations, vendor prints, and approval packages for mechanical equipment.
- Prepare and review as-built engineering documentation for equipment and package systems.
- Coordinate across civil, electrical, and control & instrumentation disciplines to finalize design and engineering deliverables.
- Apply knowledge of utility project engineering and international codes and standards.
- Use engineering tools and software such as PV Lite, AutoCAD, SP3D, PDS, and RAVIT as needed.
- Coordinate with site commissioning and erection teams to resolve engineering issues and manage design changes in consultation with OEMs, consultants, and process licensors.
- Ensure quality assurance for all engineering deliverables and track weekly, fortnightly, and monthly engineering progress.
- Monitor deadlines, budgets, and milestone achievement.
- Use safe design practices while selecting mechanical equipment to reduce site risks.
- Share progress MIS updates with senior management and drive target achievement.
- Provide training and guidance to site teams and graduate engineering trainees.
- Promote and implement safety awareness across the project.
- Work with HSE, QMS, HAZOP, safety studies, value engineering, and related compliance requirements.
- Support statutory approval processes with relevant authorities.
- Lead, mentor, and manage team performance effectively.
Requirements
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10 to 15 years of experience, preferably in utility packages for large-scale solar projects, semiconductor projects, or a similar industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design and engineering for utility systems.
- Hands-on exposure to international engineering codes and standards.
- Working familiarity with HSE, QMS, HAZOP, safety studies, and value engineering.
- Experience supporting commissioning, erection, and site engineering activities.
- Ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and manage external stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Capable of working under deadlines while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Strategic, collaborative, and execution-oriented mindset.
