About the Role
Meta invites applications for the position of Network Engineer, Foundation & Support within the Edge and Network Services (ENS) Foundation NetOps team. This role demands expertise in hyperscale data center structured cabling, fiber connectivity solutions, and IP networking to facilitate field repair services. The engineer will collaborate with various internal and external teams including vendors and network design groups to craft strategies for the deployment of new technologies and enhance support for existing systems across Meta's global operational network. A core responsibility is to align technical business drivers with operational strategies to guarantee effective supportability. This person will also act as a representative for ENS among diverse stakeholder groups to ensure the success of vital projects focused on increasing operational efficiency and network reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to major incidents by cooperating with internal teams, managed service providers, and third-party vendors, analyzing complex technical and procedural issues impacting edge, caching, and network infrastructures, and contributing to root cause identification and remediation.
- Manage changes by identifying security and business continuity vulnerabilities in Meta's network and infrastructure, recommending and implementing corrective actions, and providing feedback to improve tools, processes, and policies that scale with Meta's growing platform.
- Drive operational excellence by proposing improvements to policies, procedures, and processes aimed at enhancing efficiency and quality, ensuring compliance with standards, and optimizing service delivery.
- Partner closely with internal clients to resolve current challenges and influence future network and data center architectures for seamless infrastructure integration and scalability.
- Lead cross-functional collaborations to maintain predictable business outcomes across Meta’s global sites by analyzing operational data to spot and prioritize issues, and develop coordinated projects and roadmaps.
- Contribute to risk management by working with partner teams to design procedures to safeguard data and assets and ensure continuity of network operations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of operational policies and procedures and ensure completeness and accuracy of operational data within systems.
- Identify opportunities for automation by analyzing operational events, striving toward the goal of fully automating remediation of all Tier-1 network faults and guiding others in understanding and advancing these initiatives, including developing lightweight code solutions when needed.
- Enhance data quality for operational metrics by measuring and analyzing incident escalations, fault trends, infrastructure capacity, and vendor performance, refining success criteria to continuously improve quality, efficiency, cost, and timeliness in alignment with evolving infrastructure and business requirements.
- Communicate clearly and effectively about team goals, progress, outcomes, and lessons learned across the assigned scope.
- Be prepared for domestic and international travel that may constitute up to 25% of work time, dependent on business necessities.
Required Qualifications
- Completed or in-progress Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with degree completion prior to joining Meta.
- At least 7 years of experience in operating, deploying, and designing large-scale network, optical, or physical layer infrastructure.
- Minimum 7 years of network operations experience supporting large-scale service provider, data center, or enterprise network infrastructures.
- Proficient hands-on experience with optical and network communication equipment such as fiber test gear, WDM devices, and other related tools.
- Strong communication skills enabling effective engagement with hardware vendors, service providers, and colocation vendors on a global scale, translating technical performance issues into actionable requirements.
- Proven analytical capability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and root cause problems within systems and tools, contributing to cross-functional projects.
- Capable of providing technical direction to external vendors to guide repair efforts.
- Solid understanding of Network Services including topology, traffic analysis, hardware platforms, and architectures.
- Familiarity with enterprise and service provider network hardware platforms including Cisco, Juniper routers, switches, and Nexus data center switches.
- Knowledge in data center physical design aspects such as rack elevations, cabling, fiber optics, power, cooling, and facility infrastructure.
- Experience with network hardware from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, including Cisco WDM equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical or engineering programs from initiation to completion, using metrics to articulate project impact.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience collaborating with infrastructure engineers in various environments, including data centers and leased facilities.
- Working familiarity with global Network Operations Center (NOC) environments, handling SLAs and driving continuous improvements based on metrics.
- Project management skills.
- Experience integrating AI technologies to redesign workflows, optimize productivity, enhance quality, and generate measurable outcomes.
- Knowledge and application of responsible and ethical AI practices such as risk assessments, bias mitigation, and quality reviews.
- Commitment to ongoing AI skill development including prompt engineering and agent orchestration, with staying informed on emerging AI trends.
