About the Role

Join the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority (CRRDA) as a client-side Safety Manager responsible for providing leadership and guidance on safety across multiple works packages within a large-scale rail infrastructure project in Brisbane. This role is critical in influencing contractor culture, conducting assurance and compliance activities, delivering expert safety advice, and mentoring project teams to strengthen safety capabilities. The position supports clear decision making through effective reporting and stakeholder engagement.

The Cross River Rail project involves constructing a new 10.2 km rail line, including 5.9 km of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and CBD, with four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street, and Roma Street. It aims to alleviate rail capacity constraints across South East Queensland by providing an alternative rail corridor. The CRRDA also manages related projects such as station accessibility upgrades, new Gold Coast stations, stabling yard enhancements, track works, and an ETCS digital signalling introduction.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and assure safety performance and culture for the program, establishing clear expectations.
• Drive improvements in contractor safety culture via proactive engagement, monitoring, and best practice promotion.
• Manage compliance activities, incident investigations, and critical risk reviews, ensuring corrective actions and lessons learned are implemented.
• Prepare detailed safety reporting, trend analysis, and briefing materials for senior leadership and governance bodies.
• Create and implement safety processes empowering line managers with ownership of safety outcomes.
• Represent CRRDA in safety committees, cross-agency, and industry forums, fostering collaborative relationships.
• Provide mentoring and coaching to CRRDA staff and project managers to enhance safety accountability and capability.
• Evaluate existing safety systems, recommend improvements, develop risk mitigation strategies, and oversee implementation.

Candidate Profile

• Possess relevant tertiary qualifications in safety-related disciplines, with strong knowledge in risk management, safety assurance, incident investigation, and system deployment.
• Experience within major infrastructure, construction, or mining sectors, with sound understanding of contractor safety management and client governance.
• Strong grasp of critical risk identification and verification methods in complex and dynamic environments.
• Ability to manage multifaceted workplace relationships and coordinate stakeholders with diverse interests to achieve outcomes.
• Proven track record in stakeholder engagement with government agencies, delivery partners, and regulators.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills to interpret data, simplify technical information, and tailor messaging for varied audiences.
• Experience mentoring non-safety professionals and assisting managers in enhancing accountability and safety culture.
