Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior Planning & Inventory Manager to spearhead the creation and implementation of integrated production and inventory strategies. This pivotal role balances customer demands, material availability, production capacity, and inventory investment to ensure seamless supply chain execution. The position requires close collaboration across multiple departments including Sales, Program Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, Operations Engineering, Finance, and Quality to develop precise production schedules and inventory management plans, enabling consistent delivery and scalable growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop and sustain integrated production plans covering all product lines, transforming customer demand forecasts into executable manufacturing schedules.
- Balance demand fluctuations, material supply, manufacturing capabilities, and inventory goals while managing production priorities and communicating schedule updates organization-wide.
- Aggregate customer forecasts, sales demand, backlog, and program requirements into unified operating plans; assess demand patterns and adjust production accordingly.
- Identify and manage capacity constraints, coordinating efforts with Procurement, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams.
- Design inventory policies that strike a balance between timely customer deliveries and optimized inventory investments; monitor inventory health including shortages and excess stock.
- Implement operational metrics and dashboards; analyze forecast accuracy, inventory levels, and adherence to schedules to identify risks and recommend corrective measures.
- Collaborate extensively across functions to support production schedule execution, material availability, engineering changes, customer delivery, and financial planning.
- Lead initiatives to enhance planning processes, tools, and reporting systems; promote ERP/MRP system optimizations and standardized methodologies.
- Foster team relationships based on trust, accountability, and respect, while supporting talent development and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field; APICS CPIM certification desirable.
- Advanced degrees such as an MBA are advantageous.
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in production planning, supply chain operations, or inventory management, preferably within manufacturing settings.
- Proven expertise with ERP/MRP planning systems and familiarity with Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) or Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is preferred.
Required Skills
- In-depth understanding of production planning and scheduling principles.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP planning tools and manufacturing process knowledge.
- Strong analytical capability with expertise in Excel and data analysis to develop operational metrics and executive dashboards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills utilizing quantitative data, with sound judgment in decision-making.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication coupled with organizational and prioritization strengths.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams without direct authority.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic and adaptive to change and innovation.
Physical and Additional Requirements
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, speak and hear.
- Regular use of office equipment and sitting for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and move weight up to 50 pounds intermittently.
- Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustments.
- Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident; many roles require security clearance eligibility.
Compensation and Legal
The compensation range for this role in San Diego, CA, is $110,000 to $155,000 annually, reflecting market standards based on qualifications and experience. The company reserves the right to modify responsibilities and duties as needed. Background checks compliant with legal regulations will be conducted during the hiring process.
