Job Overview

General Motors is inviting applications for a Software Developer role in their Vehicle Software and Electronics Engineering group. This position focuses on developing innovative software for Software-Defined Vehicles, particularly infotainment systems, contributing to GM's mission of creating safer, emissions-free, and congestion-free transportation.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position requiring the successful candidate to work onsite at the Markham Elevation Centre in Markham, Ontario, Canada, at least three times each week.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality infotainment applications and services for Software-Defined Vehicles.
• Design and implement embedded software features using frameworks in Android, QNX, and Linux environments to enhance functionality and user experience.
• Apply sound software design principles and patterns to create effective solutions.
• Conduct testing and demonstrations to ensure software readiness.
• Provide reusable solutions applicable across GM software platforms.
• Document design requirements and correlate them with test cases for verification.
• Participate in multiple review stages including architecture, requirements, code, and test cases.
• Utilize automated test tools at various development stages and within vehicles to validate feature functionality.
• Collaborate actively as part of an inclusive Agile Scrum team.
• Contribute to software planning, share knowledge, and support team learning.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
• Expected graduation date between December 2025 and August 2026.
• Available to work full-time, 40 hours weekly.

Preferred Skills

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Kotlin, Java, or C/C++.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, JIRA, and GIT.
• Background in developing middleware and applications on embedded operating systems.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, algorithms, and data structures.
• Familiarity with test-driven development and software architecture patterns like JUnit, Espresso, MVVM, and Clean Architecture.
• Knowledge of Android Open Source Project and automotive infotainment development.
• Understanding of communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, ARXML, and Ethernet.
• Experience or participation in automotive-related projects or clubs like Formula SAE or Ecocar.
• Commitment to customer-focused solution design.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range offered is between 73900 and 110900 CAD annually, with the final offer based on relevant position factors.
