Overview
MBIE is offering a permanent Wellington-based opportunity for a Technical Support Analyst. This position sits within the Business Systems and Data Products team in the Resource Markets Branch, supporting the core systems that drive New Zealand’s petroleum and minerals permitting processes.
This role suits someone who enjoys solving technical issues, working with users and vendors, and improving how systems are supported. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that is evolving its ways of working and values learning, innovation, and shared outcomes.
The salary for this position is $75,114.00 to $88,266.00, with KiwiSaver and wellness benefits.
What you’ll do
You will act as the first contact for business users and provide both first- and second-level support across a range of applications. The work involves diagnosing issues, coordinating with users and suppliers, and making sure stakeholders stay informed while problems are being resolved.
In addition to support work, you will contribute to system upkeep and improvement activities such as user administration, configuration changes, testing, and assisting with production releases. The role blends hands-on technical problem-solving with regular stakeholder communication in a busy environment.
What we’re looking for
MBIE is seeking someone with a solid grasp of the software development lifecycle and prior experience in service desk or application support settings. Familiarity with Jira or similar service management tools would be helpful.
Success in this role will depend on having a proactive attitude, strong initiative, a customer-first mindset, and the ability to analyse and resolve problems effectively. Clear and concise communication is important, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
