Adjunct Faculty - Fire Science

About the Role

Roane State Community College is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member for their Fire Science program within the Department of Social Science, Business and Education. The instructor will teach Fire Science courses both online via the D2L Brightspace platform and in-person at the Oak Ridge and Knoxville - Hayfield campuses.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction and engage with students effectively in classroom, lab, and field settings.
• Evaluate and grade student work accurately and timely.
• Provide ongoing support and maintain clear communication with students.
• Ensure adherence to all institutional policies and procedures.
• Utilize the Brightspace learning management system to manage coursework.
• Comply with state and federal fire science regulations and guidelines during instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a bachelor’s degree in fire science or a closely related discipline.
• Valid Tennessee Fire Commission Fire Instructor II Certification and Academy Credentialed Instructor (ACI) credentials for Introduction to Fire and Emergency Services and Basic Firefighting.
• Successful completion of TN Fire Commission FO120-Conducting Live Fire Evolutions course.
• Familiarity with IAFC/NFPS 1010 standards.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Capable of delivering instruction in classroom, office, laboratory, and field environments.
• Physical fitness to demonstrate or oversee fire service skills safely.
• Proficiency in using personal protective equipment during training exercises.
• Willingness to travel to various training sites, fire departments, or partner organizations.
• Availability for evening or weekend teaching sessions as necessary.
• Strict compliance with safety protocols during practical and live-fire training activities.
