Database Administrator

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and meticulous Database Administrator with experience in the Banking sector to oversee, sustain, and enhance our database infrastructures. The role involves guaranteeing high database performance, security, availability, and data integrity while supporting critical business applications and systems.

Database Management

• Install, configure, update, and maintain database servers and associated software.
• Continuously monitor database performance and apply tuning techniques to increase efficiency.
• Manage database components such as storage structures, tablespaces, indexes, and partitions.
• Execute database migrations, upgrades, and apply necessary patches.

Backup & Recovery

• Create and uphold backup and recovery protocols for databases.
• Regularly validate backups and conduct disaster recovery drills.
• Support business continuity through implementation of high availability and failover mechanisms.

Security & Compliance

• Develop and enforce database security policies and manage access control.
• Supervise database activities ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory standards.
• Perform periodic security audits and identify vulnerabilities.
• Demonstrate experience operating in regulated environments and adhering to banking and information security regulations.

Performance Optimization

• Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues.
• Enhance SQL queries, stored procedures, and database system configurations.
• Continuously assess database health and anticipate risks.

Support & Troubleshooting

• Deliver Level 2 and Level 3 support for database-related problems.
• Resolve database errors and system malfunctions promptly.
• Work collaboratively with developers, system administrators, and IT personnel to overcome technical obstacles.

Documentation & Reporting

• Keep thorough documentation of database setups, configurations, and operating procedures.
• Generate reports on database performance and capacity planning.
• Record incidents, their solutions, and any system modifications.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in database administration within the Banking sector.
• Proficient with major enterprise database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
• Knowledgeable in database backup, recovery, replication, clustering, and ensuring high availability.
• Experienced in performance tuning and query optimization.
• Familiarity with cloud database services like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud is an advantage.
• Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Oracle, AWS) are preferred.
