Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering Technology Center at Evoqua Water Technologies in Chennai, India. The role involves designing and developing 3D models and technical drawings for water and wastewater treatment plants and associated process equipment.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D models, plant layouts, piping layouts, isometric diagrams, and CAD drawings for water and wastewater treatment plants or other process treatment facilities.
• Design 3D models and CAD drawings of engineered products and process machinery, including general arrangement, assembly, and fabrication drawings.
• Interpret P&ID, PFD, equipment and pump datasheets, and detail the design of skid-based water treatment systems such as UF, RO, CEDI, CIP, UV, and Softeners.
• Convert 2D drawings into 3D models, perform modifications, enhancements, and reverse engineering on existing designs and products.
• Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) using ERP/SAP systems.
• Maintain and update design metadata and 3D models within PDM/PLM systems (Vault Pro) to ensure proper documentation, version control, and retrieval.
• Coordinate across departments to prepare plant layouts, piping layouts, and general arrangement drawings that satisfy technical specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BE or B.Tech) with first-class honors.
• 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience working with Autodesk Inventor for 3D CAD modeling. Knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks is a plus but not mandatory.
• Proficient in using Inventor's Frame Generator and Tube & Pipe modules.
• Preferred experience in design and detailed engineering within water and wastewater treatment sectors; alternatively, experience in oil & gas, chemical processing, or power plants is acceptable.
• Familiarity with interconnecting piping, isometric drawing generation, piping standards, material standards, and applicable codes for water and wastewater treatment equipment is advantageous.
• Preferred knowledge in designing skid-based water treatment systems, including structural design and detailing of skid frames and tank weldment assemblies.
• Understanding of equipment/product design principles including material specifications, fabrication detailing, limits, fits, and GD&T conventions.
• Computer skills in MS Office tools for documentation, spreadsheets, and presentations are beneficial.
• Experience collaborating with international engineering teams is a plus.
• Strong communication abilities for effective liaison with global teams. Self-motivated, analytical, problem-solving mindset, with dedication to meeting targets and commitments.
