Role Overview

The Engineer Specials position within MillerKnoll Specials Engineering focuses on following established engineering processes with direct guidance. The role supports business goals by resolving routine engineering and process challenges, analyzing product data to create generic bills of material, and occasionally providing fundamental technical leadership. You will perform feasibility analyses, estimate manpower and cost, develop engineering criteria, and generate design recommendations for structures, systems, and components. Collaborative teamwork, planning skills, and consistent project delivery are emphasized.

Key Responsibilities

• Document work details clearly with assumptions noted.
• Utilize foundational engineering knowledge for task execution.
• Understand and apply MillerKnoll Performance Systems (MKPS).
• Apply problem-solving techniques in daily engineering duties.
• Complete assigned projects under leadership direction.
• Adhere to standard engineering procedures ensuring quality on first attempt.
• Engage mentorship from senior engineers to maintain accuracy and workflow.
• Obtain budget approvals via correct channels.
• Modify existing designs based on understanding design intent and product applications.
• Use engineering and project tools including Pro E, PDM Link, Performance Test requests, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Revu, BOM Compare, BAAN/JDE, and Confluence.
• Apply basic supply chain cost principles and value stream capabilities.
• Help develop rules for item masters, bills of material, and routings.
• Create spreadsheets capturing unique product line data for generic bills of material.
• Coordinate between product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and software configuration to develop vocabulary spreadsheets supporting bills of material and routings.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively within the team for idea sharing and suggestions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proficiency with Creo and other 3D CAD software.
• Basic understanding of Lean manufacturing principles.
• Able to identify waste and variability in business processes.
• Collaborate daily and communicate clearly on challenges and opportunities.
• Familiarity with common office and engineering software tools.
• Flexible and responsive to changing project priorities and workflows.
• Basic knowledge of business impact of engineering decisions.

Experience and Competencies

• Over three years of professional experience in product improvement or new product development.
• Skilled in Pro-E modeling, complex assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
• Experience handling bills of material is advantageous.
• Strong communication skills across various organizational levels.
• Proactive, accountable, and able to work independently or in teams.
• Creative problem solving and lateral thinking capabilities.
