Job Overview
The Hook Up Engineer utilizes their foundational knowledge of hook-up operations to address a variety of straightforward challenges. Operating with moderate supervision from peers and senior leadership, this role requires analyzing potential solutions by applying standard protocols and accumulating company-specific knowledge including processes and customer requirements. The engineer is expected to comprehend key business objectives, making informed decisions and resolving relatively simple problems through technical expertise, judgement, and precedent references.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and adhere to the Company’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies and procedures detailed in the Management System.
- Engage in and provide onsite guidance during pre-engineering and pre-construction surveys.
- Examine construction drawings thoroughly to assess constructability; identify any concerns and facilitate their resolution.
- Define and formalize discipline-specific scope of work, schedules, and technical specifications ensuring clarity on deliverables.
- Review material requisitions for conformity with project specifications before procurement.
- Develop and disseminate final hook-up construction work packages.
- Track scope changes and inputs in relevant control management systems like DTCMS/CAT.
- Guarantee availability of all engineering deliverables, including drawings, materials, and procedures, to support hook-up execution.
- Create and review hook-up task sheets.
- Ensure efficient sequencing and scheduling of hook-up activities, coordinating with other disciplines.
- Forecast resource needs and manpower allocations.
- Manage onsite delivery of documentation, fabrication, materials, personnel, and vendors in line with hook-up timelines.
- Provide onsite technical guidance ensuring compliance with company standards.
- Coordinate materials handling with load-out plans at yards and optimize sea vessel shipments offshore.
- Travel as needed to onshore/offshore regional facilities supporting project coordination and execution according to schedule.
- Monitor and report changes and growth impacting hook-up during project progress.
- Participate in hazard identification sessions (HAZID), incident investigations, and communicate findings to project management and senior engineers.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation including reports and checklists capturing all hook-up activities and outcomes.
- Regularly update project stakeholders on progress, milestones, challenges, and deviations.
- Execute hook-up tasks following project plans, procedures, and health and safety guidelines.
- Offer technical support during both planning and execution stages.
- Comply with relevant industry codes, regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Contribute to project review meetings by providing insights and suggestions for process improvements.
- Manage and oversee all hook-up operations ensuring alignment with project specifications, safety, and industry standards.
- Collaborate effectively with project stakeholders to meet deadlines for hook-up activities.
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure seamless hook-up execution.
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical, Mechanical, or a related discipline.
- At least 6 years of offshore hook-up experience within the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) sector.
- Thorough understanding of industry standards, codes, and regulations (including API, ASME, IEC, NEC).
- Strong technical and analytical capabilities for troubleshooting and resolving intricate technical issues.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities within the discipline and experience in mentoring junior or trainee engineers.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse project teams and stakeholders.
- Proactive, adaptable, and capable of working independently as well as in team settings.
- Certification in safety and environmental regulations such as OSHA and HSE is an advantage.
