Role Overview
This opportunity is offered on behalf of a partner company seeking a senior iOS Engineer located in New Zealand. The role involves building and enhancing a large-scale iOS application that serves millions of users. The position combines hands-on Swift programming with architectural planning, technical teamwork, and continual enhancement. Collaboration with engineering, design, and product teams is vital to deliver scalable, user-friendly mobile applications. The engineer will have the chance to shape iOS development standards while working on critical business functionalities and promoting a culture of ownership and knowledge sharing alongside modern software development methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain robust iOS applications using Swift, working across UIKit and SwiftUI codebases.
- Continuously deliver incremental improvements through a continuous integration and delivery workflow.
- Collaborate with backend developers to integrate APIs and enhance client-server communication.
- Work with product managers and designers to transform concepts and designs into accessible, high-quality mobile user interfaces.
- Produce clean, maintainable, and well-tested code including unit and integration tests.
- Engage in test automation, code reviews, refactoring, and architectural discussions.
- Help establish and refine engineering best practices and iOS development standards.
- Mentor fellow engineers by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and initiatives for continuous product and process improvement.
- Identify technical risks early, communicate challenges promptly, and propose effective long-term solutions.
- Focus on enhancing application performance, reliability, and overall user experience.
Candidate Requirements
- Extensive professional experience in iOS development primarily using Swift.
- Solid expertise with UIKit and practical production-level experience using SwiftUI.
- Strong grasp of iOS architecture patterns such as MVC, MVVM, or VIPER.
- Experience working with RESTful API integration, JSON data handling, and client-server architectures.
- Proficient in writing unit tests with XCTest and dedicated to quality-focused development.
- Familiarity with iOS CI/CD processes and automation tools like Fastlane.
- Proficient in Git and modern collaborative development methodologies.
- Effective communicator in English within a geographically dispersed team.
- Experience with Objective-C and managing or migrating legacy codebases is advantageous.
- Background in high-traffic consumer apps and knowledge of SwiftUI at scale, Combine framework, performance optimization, crash monitoring, or mobile observability is a plus.
- Prior experience mentoring or providing technical leadership is beneficial.
