Role Summary

This opportunity is being offered on behalf of a government entity in Abu Dhabi for a UAE national to join as Section Head - Spatial Data Analytics. The position is full-time and based on site in Abu Dhabi. It focuses on directing spatial analytics programs, governing geospatial information, and ensuring that environmental and operational datasets are accurate, accessible, and useful for decision-making.

The role also involves managing the creation, upkeep, and documentation of spatial and non-spatial environmental data, reports, maps, applications, and visual dashboards. The purpose of the function is to deliver timely and reliable information to internal and external stakeholders while supporting compliance with local and international standards.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Set the section’s performance direction, assign individual goals, and support team members to achieve targets.
  • Coach and guide direct reports, while also helping drive Emiratization outcomes through the recruitment, development, and retention of UAE nationals.

Technical Oversight and Analytics

  • Direct the evaluation, adoption, and ongoing improvement of advanced spatial analytics tools and platforms, including GIS and remote sensing capabilities, and ensure they work well with existing systems and recognized best practices.
  • Work closely with user departments such as Environmental Quality and Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity to understand spatial data needs in detail.
  • Lead geospatial and geo-statistical analysis activities, including modeling, conversion, visualization, inventory management, and quality review.
  • Create and apply a structured process for regularly checking data freshness, accuracy, usefulness, and completeness in line with governance requirements.

Planning, Budgeting, and Governance

  • Develop the section’s short-term and long-term strategy, annual objectives, and operational plans in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare the section budget, track spending, and review financial performance to keep operations within approved limits.
  • Draft and implement section policies and procedures in accordance with HR, legal, risk, quality assurance, and information security guidelines.
  • Advise senior leadership on business continuity and environmental emergency or crisis management to strengthen resilience and organizational readiness.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in GIS, Data Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field is required.
  • At least 6 years of experience in a relevant discipline, including a minimum of 4 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Behavioral competencies should align with the Abu Dhabi Government Competency Framework.
  • This role is restricted to UAE nationals.
