Role Overview
This position is for a full-time, on-location Tea Taster based in Guwahati. The key responsibility is to evaluate numerous tea samples each day by analyzing their aroma, taste, appearance, and overall quality to assist in procurement and blend formulation. Duties also include maintaining comprehensive tasting notes, benchmarking samples against quality standards, and collaborating closely with procurement and sales teams regarding product selection.
The role may require visits to warehouses or tea estates to gather firsthand information and support blending initiatives and marketing strategies for various consumer markets. The Tea Taster must adhere to hygienic and safety protocols, coordinate tasting schedules efficiently, and contribute to maintaining batch consistency.
Candidate Qualifications
- Strong sensory capabilities with well-developed taste and olfactory senses capable of distinguishing subtle variations among tea types.
- Keen observation and analytical skills to document and differentiate tasting outcomes, aiding purchasing and blending decisions.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for sharing insights across procurement, production, and sales departments.
- Proficiency in managing time and organizing multiple tastings while keeping accurate records and following structured procedures.
- Preferably familiar with tea cultivation, processing techniques, or trading and possess a genuine interest in local and global tea markets.
- Educational background such as a diploma or degree in food science, agriculture, hospitality, or related disciplines, or equivalent experience in tea or beverage quality evaluation.
- Willingness to work on-site in Guwahati, travel within the local area as needed, and comply with company quality and safety regulations.
