Position Overview
The Technology Support Assistant role involves providing comprehensive technical assistance within the USD 405 school district. This entry-level IT position requires managing a variety of support services including network troubleshooting, user training, and desktop support, helping administrators, staff, and students with technology needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver technology support in a Microsoft Windows environment to district administrators, staff, and students.
- Maintain workstations and peripherals; including updating virus protection, browsers, messaging clients, and multimedia software.
- Install and support hardware devices such as printers, scanners, and audio/visual systems.
- Utilize system management tools like Windows, Novell Zenworks, and Novell GroupWise for workstation operations.
- Ensure hardware and software are current, consistent with recommended versions.
- Possess strong knowledge of network fundamentals such as TCP/IP, LAN, and WAN.
- Handle emergency tech support requests, maintain helpdesk tickets, and provide individual training and troubleshooting.
- Conduct repairs on PCs, printers, and scanners as necessary.
- Assist with relocating and setting up workstations with network support.
- Support administration and upkeep of district applications and websites.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Technology.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required, alongside experience or training in IT support focusing on software, hardware, databases, servers, and networking technologies. Candidates should demonstrate independent decision-making skills and reliability.
Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or two years of IT support experience working with Windows systems, equipment repair, server and database management, and user support.
Additional Information
The employer holds the discretion to modify or add duties consistent with this job classification. Scheduling is flexible to accommodate district needs, and the position may require travel within district facilities to address technology issues.
