Role Overview
The Air Traffic Controller is responsible for safely managing and directing air traffic within the UAE Flight Information Region (FIR). This role involves handling high traffic volumes to prevent congestion, effectively communicating with pilots, coordinating with external agencies, and managing emergencies or unusual events with composure.
Key Duties
- Control air traffic within the UAE FIR ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Regulate traffic flow to avoid congestion in and beyond UAE airspace.
- Maintain effective communication of instructions to pilots for traffic management.
- Coordinate promptly with external organizations as necessary.
- Report system failures, safety risks, incidents, and abnormalities to the relevant authorities.
- Participate in simulation exercises, procedure development, and airspace redesign on an as-needed basis.
- Support configuration testing and commissioning of updated or new air traffic control systems.
- Provide on-the-job training and progress evaluations for trainee ATCOs and cadets when qualified.
- Submit accurate and timely operational reports per GCAA standards.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental protocols relevant to workplace safety and service quality.
- Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by management to meet organizational goals.
Job Context and Decision Making
This position requires the ability to manage complex air traffic scenarios with current knowledge of airspace regulations and effective communications with all concerned entities. The Air Traffic Controller primarily holds decision-making authority for operational tasks, while administrative matters are coordinated through the Senior Specialist – Air Traffic Operations.
Required Qualifications and Knowledge
- Possession of a valid Area and/or Approach Radar Control License issued by an ICAO-recognized state or organization, acknowledged by GCAA.
- Valid air traffic control medical certification.
- ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or higher.
- Strong knowledge of ICAO regulations including Annexes 2 and 11, Doc 4444, Doc 7030, UAE AIP, and Local ATS Instructions relevant to Emirates ACC.
- Thorough understanding of operational equipment and systems used in UAE FIR air traffic services.
Proficiency and Performance Maintenance
- Complete periodic competency exams covering theory and practical performance as per GCAA requirements.
- Stay informed through pre-watch briefings on factors influencing traffic within the UAE FIR.
Additional Information
Salary: 57,000 AED monthly.
