Role overview

This position is for an Associate Creative Director, Copy who will help guide Weedmaps’ brand language, messaging architecture, campaign ideas, editorial storytelling, and communications across social, lifecycle, creator, editorial, and product marketing work. The role combines creative leadership with strategic thinking to develop timely, culturally connected ideas, native-to-platform campaigns, narrative systems, and scalable messaging that strengthen trust and audience affinity.

This is a hybrid role with 2 to 3 days per week onsite in Irvine, CA.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct the creation of campaign concepts, messaging frameworks, social storytelling, creator narratives, editorial angles, and lifecycle marketing copy.
  • Shape and refine the Weedmaps voice across social, editorial, campaign, creator, and product-facing experiences.
  • Develop original, culturally aware concepts that align with current audience behaviors and platform norms.
  • Turn audience insights and business goals into clear narratives and creative platforms.
  • Work closely with Editorial, Social, Lifecycle, Growth, Product Marketing, and Production teams on integrated messaging.
  • Create reusable storytelling systems and content structures that can scale across channels.
  • Protect consistency, clarity, brand fit, and cultural relevance in all copy.
  • Help design AI-supported copy processes, prompt approaches, and messaging governance standards.
  • Contribute to strategy sessions, creative briefs, and early concept development.
  • Keep up with internet culture, creator ecosystems, audience habits, and new communication trends.
  • Guide and mentor copywriters, freelancers, contributors, and other creative collaborators.
  • Review and approve copy for campaigns, lifecycle, content, and broader brand communications.
  • Set standards for voice, tone, quality, and overall creative output.
  • Help improve creative operations, workflows, and content governance.
  • Partner with creative leadership on staffing, resourcing, and workload planning.
  • Promote a collaborative culture focused on strong ideas and continuous improvement.
  • Support long-term creative direction and organizational development initiatives.

Requirements

Compensation and benefits

The base salary for this position is $136,000 to $160,000 per year.
