Role overview
One Manchester is looking for a Caretaker to join its team on a full-time, permanent basis in Manchester. The role focuses on keeping estates, communal spaces and external areas safe, tidy and well cared for, while also supporting resident wellbeing and security.
About the organisation
One Manchester works to provide quality homes, reliable services and meaningful opportunities for customers and communities. Alongside managing homes, the organisation invests in new and existing properties, offers money advice and wellbeing support, helps people into employment and training, and builds partnerships that promote inclusive growth.
What you will do
You will deliver a prompt, proactive and practical caretaking and cleaning service across properties and communal areas. The post involves regular inspections, reacting quickly to incidents including out-of-hours situations, carrying out small repairs in shared areas, and escalating any defects, hazards or maintenance issues without delay.
Main duties
- Carry out routine checks of properties, shared spaces and surrounding grounds.
- Keep communal areas and external spaces clean, secure and presentable.
- Respond quickly to incidents and urgent issues, including outside normal working hours when required.
- Complete minor repairs and remedial work in communal parts of buildings.
- Identify and report defects, repairs and safety hazards as soon as they are found.
- Use a hands-on approach to support the safety and wellbeing of residents.
Requirements
The successful candidate should bring solid customer service experience, practical property maintenance ability and awareness of health and safety expectations, including COSHH. You should be able to handle emergencies sensibly, work on your own initiative, perform basic building maintenance, use simple IT tools, and be prepared to work out of hours if necessary. A full UK driving licence is required.
Additional information
This is a permanent role. The closing date for applications is 20 July 2026. One Manchester is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and uses the Rooney Rule approach by aiming to interview at least one ethnically diverse candidate for all roles, and at least one female candidate for trades and facilities roles where underrepresentation exists. The organisation also supports agile and flexible working where possible, including consideration of part-time hours in suitable cases.
