Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Copy Editor to enhance and maintain the quality of written content across three internal brands. This pivotal role involves refining print and digital materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, brand consistency, and user engagement. Collaborating with marketing, legal, design, technical writing, and global partners, the Copy Editor will uphold editorial standards, guide content strategy, and manage complex projects in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Carefully proofread, edit, and occasionally draft content aligned with brand voice and usability across diverse formats including packaging, product listings, manuals, blogs, emails, video scripts, and social media posts.
- Perform comprehensive final reviews of campaign content to guarantee messaging coherence, error-free copy, and editorial excellence.
- Maintain meticulous attention to detail under tight deadlines, ensuring all materials are polished and user-friendly.
- Stay abreast of current industry trends, evolving editorial standards, style guides, and share updates to enhance team workflows.
- Lead content rewrites and restructuring efforts to improve clarity, flow, and consumer comprehension while preserving the original intent and tone.
- Enforce brand voice, editorial policies, and copyright/ethical standards across all output.
- Serve as the authoritative voice on final editing decisions, promoting content consistency and quality.
- Update internal style guides and conduct market and competitor research to raise editorial benchmarks.
- Own the editing process for packaging, marketing collateral, retail materials, and product descriptions ensuring alignment with industry norms.
- Provide detailed editorial feedback and collaborate closely with copywriters and other stakeholders to apply best practices.
- Act as a subject matter expert for marketing content formatting, SEO considerations, phrasing, and style guide compliance.
- Manage high-profile and complex content projects with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and market competitiveness.
- Coordinate with Chinese content creators, U.S. teams, and project managers to assure global consistency in language and branding assets.
- Review third-party microcopy to meet brand and usability standards.
- Partner with legal and marketing teams to verify claims, secure compliance, and ensure proper trademark usage.
- Standardize marketing language and phrasing across all brand platforms to maintain unified messaging.
- Lead editing for go-to-market campaigns to ensure consistent messaging across deliverables.
- Collaborate with creative teams supporting campaign concepts and brand storytelling initiatives.
- Exhibit a strong grasp of marketing strategy, targeted audiences, and digital content requirements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related discipline.
- 5 to 8 years of professional editing experience including a Copy Editor role.
- 2 to 6 years of experience in digital marketing or marketing fields preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise with packaging content and product detail page collateral is essential.
- Proficient in MS Office, PageProof or equivalent reviewing platforms, and video review tools like Frame.io.
- Adobe Creative Suite skills are an advantage.
- Excellent command of English grammar, syntax, and a range of editorial best practices.
- Knowledgeable in AP Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Style, and other style guides.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with acute attention to detail.
- Able to deliver precise, consistent, high-quality work under pressure and shifting deadlines.
- Proven ability to work effectively across teams including Marketing, Legal, Product, UX, and international stakeholders.
- Outstanding communication skills, capable of providing clear, constructive feedback.
- Experienced presenter of best practices and advocate for editorial standards within teams and departments.
- Understanding of marketing strategy, audience segmentation, SEO methods, user experience, and consistent brand messaging.
Work Location
This position is based on-site in Tustin, California.
Compensation
The starting wage for this role is $28.85 per hour.
