It plans and carries out surveys and censuses, compiles administrative records, and studies important social and economic trends for the country. Staff work with partners at both local and national levels to keep information accurate, dependable, and easy to access.
Role Summary
This is a full-time, on-site Data Collector position in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The job focuses on using approved survey methods to gather information from respondents, complete interviews, and record answers accurately. The role requires visiting assigned locations, checking whether respondents meet the eligibility rules, and entering information into paper-based or digital formats without delay. It also involves protecting confidentiality, following sample instructions, flagging field issues to supervisors, taking part in pre-survey trials and validation work, attending required training, and supporting the field team in achieving daily and overall output goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer questionnaires and carry out interviews according to established field procedures.
- Record responses accurately in paper forms or digital data collection systems.
- Travel to designated field locations and confirm respondent eligibility before collecting data.
- Follow sampling guidelines and other project instructions exactly as provided.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle collected information responsibly.
- Report field-related problems and constraints to supervisors in a timely manner.
- Participate in pre-survey testing, validation, and quality assurance activities.
- Attend trainings and apply the approved data collection protocols consistently.
- Work closely with the field team to meet daily targets and project deadlines.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience in surveys, interviews, field research, or other data collection work.
- Strong analytical ability to review information for accuracy and consistency.
- Clear communication skills for working with respondents, supervisors, and teammates respectfully.
- Willingness and ability to learn training content and follow data collection procedures.
- Basic computer literacy, including comfort with data entry tools or mobile data collection apps.
- Careful attention to detail, dependability, and the discipline to follow standard instructions.
- Ability to communicate in relevant local languages and good written and spoken English or Amharic.
- Completed secondary education; post-secondary study in statistics, social sciences, economics, or a related area is an added advantage.
- Previous involvement in government surveys, censuses, or research assignments is helpful.
