Position Overview

We are seeking our inaugural in-house General Counsel to establish and lead the legal function from the ground up. This role requires a practicing attorney who will oversee all existing legal issues presently handled by external law firms nationwide, managing litigation efficiently, negotiating resolutions proactively, and providing direct, clear counsel to executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the company’s litigation portfolio, including consumer and commercial disputes across operating states, registering as in-house counsel as needed, and coordinating with local attorneys for filings and courtroom representation.
• Negotiate settlements effectively to avoid protracted litigation in customer, vendor, employment, and commercial disputes.
• Handle insurance coverage matters by tendering litigated cases to insurance carriers and pursuing defense cost reimbursements.
• Oversee external legal spending by selecting law firms, defining engagement scopes, enforcing billing guidelines, and adhering to budget limits.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including dealer, vendor, and real estate agreements.
• Collaborate with leadership and external counsel on corporate acquisitions and transactional work.
• Provide legal support to human resources on employment law issues, investigations, policies, ADA, FMLA, EEOC compliance, and wage-hour matters.
• Maintain corporate governance, manage legal entities, ensure licensing conformity, and oversee regulatory compliance.

Candidate Profile

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution and active bar membership; licensed or willing to promptly obtain license to practice in Florida.
• Extensive experience in commercial litigation and dispute resolution.
• Proven track record in negotiating settlements and managing complex business legal matters.
• Familiarity with employment law and HR compliance requirements.
• Experience directing outside counsel and managing legal budgets.
• Ability to operate independently as the only in-house attorney, with paralegal assistance.
• Preferred qualifications include knowledge of multi-location retail, automotive or RV dealership operations, consumer protection litigation, finance & insurance compliance, and experience with family-owned businesses.

Compensation and Growth

This role offers a total compensation package ranging from $300,000 to $350,000 annually, based on experience, in addition to benefits. As the company’s first internal legal position, opportunities for role expansion and increased seniority will correlate with business growth and individual performance.
