About the Role
Join Prisma Health as a Genetic Counselor providing expert genetic counseling services to individuals and families through various Oncology Programs including Multidisciplinary Cancer Centers, Ambulatory Infusion Centers, and Inpatient Units. This full-time onsite position in Columbia, SC focuses on identifying families at risk for hereditary cancers, offering education on genetic testing options, interpreting test outcomes, and guiding patients through decision-making processes and management of hereditary cancer syndromes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive genetic counseling consultations tailored to hereditary cancer risk assessment, including detailed personal and family history evaluations.
- Guide patients through complex genetic testing processes, coordinate testing with national laboratories when opted for, and communicate results effectively.
- Provide management recommendations for those diagnosed with hereditary cancer syndromes.
- Participate actively in tumor board meetings, contributing insights to oncology and healthcare teams.
- Supervise genetic counseling students, interns, residents, and fellows based on Cancer Center leadership decisions.
- Engage in both clinical and research projects, supporting initiatives through presentations, publications, and teaching opportunities at local, regional, and national levels.
- Assist with marketing and business development, including delivering in-service training and creating promotional materials.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited American Board of Genetic Counseling program.
- No prior experience mandatory; however, two years of oncology genetics counseling experience is preferred.
- Mandatory licensure to practice as a Genetic Counselor in South Carolina within six months of hire if employed after 05/01/2025.
- Board certification (CGC) is preferred and must be obtained within one year of hire if employed before 05/01/2025.
- Competence in computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and data entry.
- Familiarity with common office equipment such as fax and copier machines.
Employment Details
The position reports to a designated supervisor, manager, director, or executive but does not include management responsibilities.
Work schedule is primarily day shifts at the Medical Park Rd Richland facility in Columbia, SC, within the Pediatric Administration department.
