Role Overview
The GIS Analyst will provide vital support to IFAW's Rescue and Conservation programs by managing geospatial data through collection, organization, and analysis. This role demands participation in field data collection, map creation, database maintenance, and routine GIS analytical tasks, ensuring that spatial data remains accurate, well-organized, and easily accessible.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, validate, and consolidate spatial and attribute data from field staff, partners, and stakeholders.
- Assist in GPS and mobile data collection projects across IFAW-supported landscapes, utilizing platforms like EarthRanger, SMART, and Survey123.
- Maintain and update geodatabases for both the organization and partners, ensuring data integrity and conformance with metadata standards.
- Perform data digitization, cleaning, verification, and quality assurance to maintain reliable spatial datasets.
- Create professional maps, cartographic layouts, and geospatial products to aid project execution, reporting, and informed decision-making.
- Execute geospatial analyses and spatial modeling under senior guidance to facilitate conservation and landscape management activities.
- Support remote sensing efforts including spatial monitoring and imagery interpretation for conservation planning and habitat assessment.
- Develop and maintain Web GIS applications, interactive maps, dashboards, and visualization tools for internal and external stakeholders.
- Design and update ArcGIS StoryMaps integrating maps, multimedia, and narratives to effectively communicate program impacts to communities, donors, and decision-makers.
- Offer GIS technical support and build capacity among project teams and partners in spatial data collection, analysis, visualization, and reporting.
- Document workflows, methodologies, standard procedures, and data management practices aligned with organizational standards.
- Contribute to advancing spatial data management frameworks, best practices, and geospatial innovation to support organizational goals.
Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in GIS, spatial data management, and geospatial analysis; relevant internships may be considered.
- Proficient in using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and/or QGIS for spatial data handling, analytical work, and map creation.
- Experience with GPS and mobile data collecting tools such as Survey123, EarthRanger, SMART, or Field Maps.
- Strong command of cartography principles, coordinate systems, geodatabase management, metadata standards, and spatial data management techniques.
- Skilled at developing Web GIS applications, dashboards, and ArcGIS StoryMaps to convey spatial information effectively.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaborative skills to engage across multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness and capacity to travel to remote and field locations, up to 20% of working time.
Additional Information
Staff follow a hybrid work schedule, requiring two days per week presence in the office.
