IBM ClearCase Technical Lead

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled IBM ClearCase Technical Lead to oversee, manage, and support enterprise Software Configuration Management (SCM) using IBM Rational ClearCase. This role demands expertise in version control, build and release management, branch and configuration management, and leading migration efforts. The successful candidate will guide SCM activities, partner with development teams, drive process enhancements, and ensure adherence to software delivery standards. Experience in application and data migration to new instances, along with knowledge of data cleansing within the tool, is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain IBM Rational ClearCase environments across various projects, including managing VOBs, Views, Storage Pools, and ClearCase Regions.
• Oversee installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and troubleshoot ClearCase infrastructure while monitoring performance and ensuring system stability and availability.
• Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans for ClearCase repositories to safeguard data integrity.
• Develop and enforce SCM processes, standards, and best practices, managing source code version control activities such as branching, merging, labeling, and baselining.
• Support parallel development workflows and release management, ensuring configuration management compliance and audit readiness.
• Establish naming conventions and branching strategies for effective configuration control.
• Coordinate build and deployment operations across development, testing, and production environments, automating processes and integrating with CI/CD pipelines.
• Lead migration projects transferring source code from ClearCase to modern SCM platforms like Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps, including repository assessment, cleanup, validation, and post-migration support.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to SCM and development teams, serve as the primary contact for SCM issues, and collaborate with project managers, architects, and leads.
• Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions and process trainings to foster team growth and SCM excellence.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum 8 years of IT experience with hands-on proficiency in IBM Rational ClearCase and ClearQuest (preferred).
• In-depth knowledge of build and release management, SCM practices, and branching/merging methodologies.
• Experience managing Dynamic and Snapshot Views, VOB administration, and MultiSite replication.
• Strong scripting capabilities in Shell, PowerShell, Python, and preferably Perl.
• Background supporting Agile and Waterfall development frameworks with solid understanding of SDLC, change management, and release governance.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with SCM platforms such as Git, GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, and Bitbucket.
• Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, and Bamboo.
• Prior involvement in ClearCase-to-Git migration initiatives.
• Linux and Windows administration knowledge and exposure to containerization and DevOps practices.
• Understanding of cloud technologies, including Azure or AWS.

Additional Requirements

• Capability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and enforce documentation and governance.

Certifications that add value include: IBM Rational ClearCase Administration, GitHub/Git Administration, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, AWS Cloud Practitioner, and ITIL Foundation.
