Role overview
The Inspector I is an entry-level field role focused on collecting petroleum and petrochemical samples from vessels, rail and road tank cars, and shore tanks, using strictly defined operating procedures. In some regions, the work also includes dry cargo sampling. Collected samples must be correctly labelled, stored, and delivered for laboratory testing. The role may require work at heights, in confined spaces, and around hazardous materials, while following rigorous safety standards. Shifts can be irregular and may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Key duties
- Carry out sampling of petrochemical fluids and, where applicable, dry cargo in line with approved procedures.
- Work according to client instructions, Saybolt Standard procedures, the Global Safety Manual, and company policies.
- Take part in training and successfully complete relevant assessments in petroleum, chemical and gas inspection, hazardous goods transport, and safety practices.
- Label and store samples correctly, including product information, storage details, sampling time, and inspector identification.
- Arrange for collected samples to be transported safely and on time to the laboratory.
- Support senior inspectors with inspection activities when needed.
- Keep skills and technical knowledge current through ongoing learning.
- Maintain strict confidentiality for both the company and its clients at all times.
- Accept other assigned tasks as required and remain flexible in day-to-day operations.
Qualifications and experience
- Secondary school education or an equivalent qualification is required.
- At least 1 year of experience in a service-based environment is preferred.
- A valid driving licence with a clean or satisfactory driving record is required.
- A valid work permit for Georgia is required.
- Ability to share knowledge and practical expertise with coworkers is expected.
