Role overview
CESED – Centro de Estudios sobre Seguridad y Drogas is hiring a part-time IT Manager in Abu Dhabi with a hybrid work setup, allowing part of the schedule to be completed remotely. This position is focused on keeping the organization’s technology environment stable, secure, and efficient.
Core duties
The selected professional will take ownership of everyday IT operations, including network and server upkeep, user access administration, and protection of systems and data. The role covers coordination of hardware and software deployments, routine updates, and technical troubleshooting for employees. It also involves working with outside vendors and service providers, overseeing backup and disaster recovery processes, and putting cybersecurity controls into practice and under review.
Documentation and improvement
This position requires maintaining records of IT policies, operating procedures, and technology assets. The IT Manager will also support the organization’s technology requirements for research, teaching, and outreach efforts, while identifying practical improvements that strengthen reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should bring strong hands-on knowledge of network administration, server support, operating systems such as Windows and Linux, and end-user assistance in a small or mid-sized organization. Practical experience with cybersecurity measures, including endpoint defense, firewalls, access management, data backups, and disaster recovery planning, is important. Familiarity with cloud productivity platforms such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, along with basic database or information management tools, is also expected.
Additional requirements
The role calls for someone who can manage IT projects, organize priorities, and handle vendor relationships and service agreements within set budgets. Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting ability, and clear communication with non-technical colleagues are essential. The organization values candidates who can work independently as well as in a collaborative hybrid environment while respecting confidentiality and data protection standards.
Background preference
A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline is preferred, although equivalent practical experience may also be considered. Experience in academic, research, nonprofit, or policy-oriented settings would be an added advantage.
