Position Overview
KPMB seeks an entry-level Designer at their Cambridge, Massachusetts office who has enthusiasm for architecture and design excellence. This role involves supporting project teams to develop design concepts, technical drawings, and presentations, while receiving mentorship from senior architects. The successful candidate will contribute attention to detail and basic technical skills needed to understand construction processes and collaborate effectively both independently and within teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed technical drawings using Revit and Rhino for 3D modeling to express design intent and assist design development.
- Utilize foundational knowledge of building technology, materials, assembly, and construction methods to support project execution.
- Integrate building codes, zoning rules, and architectural standards into documentation with senior oversight.
- Conduct research and spatial analyses to inform design layouts and support project goals.
- Update drawings incorporating feedback, redlines, on-site measurements, and existing conditions data.
- Adhere to BIM standards and best practices.
- Engage in design discussions, share ideas, accept feedback, and grow through mentorship.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants on project coordination tasks.
- Maintain organized and accurate project files and documentation.
- Prioritize tasks aligned with project goals, ensuring work is delivered on time and meets quality criteria.
- Monitor work compliance regarding constructability, codes, and coordination to mitigate risks.
- Stay current with industry trends and innovations to contribute fresh perspectives and enhance technical expertise.
- Build understanding and apply sustainable design principles and environmental standards.
- Participate in project reviews to glean lessons and promote continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
- Holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architectural studies.
- Possesses up to two years of architectural design experience, including internships or co-op roles.
- Proficient with Revit, BIM tools, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and 3D visualization software.
- Skilled in producing technical drawings and renderings.
- Knowledgeable about building technology, construction methodologies, and materials relevant to functional design.
- Familiar with Massachusetts State Building Code and International Code Council standards.
- Active participation in academic/firm committees, team-building, or culture-enhancing activities.
- Maintains a portfolio showcasing meticulous attention to detail.
- Exhibits curiosity, resourcefulness, and self-awareness with a proactive approach to learning and seeking guidance.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
