Overview

Apex Industries Inc. is looking for an enthusiastic Junior Mechanical Engineer, designated as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), to become part of our Product Development & Automation team located in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. This position involves supporting the design, development, testing, and deployment of customized machinery, automation solutions, and new product developments.

You will collaborate with skilled engineers, designers, and tradespeople gaining practical experience through the complete engineering cycle — from initial concept and design, through prototype testing and commissioning, to providing support for manufacturing activities. This role is ideal for early-career engineers who enjoy hands-on problem solving within a cooperative manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and update mechanical components, assembled units, and manufacturing drawings utilizing SolidWorks software.
  • Assist in developing specialized machinery, automation systems, pneumatic and fluid power systems, power transmission parts, and structural assemblies.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and other technical documentation as required.
  • Participate in prototype construction, testing, troubleshooting, validation, and commissioning phases.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to address design challenges and enhance manufacturability.
  • Manage engineering documents and maintain version control by using SolidWorks PDM software.
  • Engage in design review sessions and continuous improvement efforts aimed at improving product quality, manufacturing workflows, and engineering procedures.
  • Support root cause analysis investigations and suggest effective engineering remedies.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is mandatory.
  • Must hold or be eligible to register as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB).
  • 0 to 5 years of related engineering experience is acceptable.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD design programs.
  • Fundamental knowledge of machine design concepts, manufacturing techniques, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and good communication skills.
  • Capable of working effectively both independently and within team environments across office, lab, and shop settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior cooperative education or industrial internship in manufacturing, automation, or product development sectors.
  • Experience using SolidWorks PDM for document control.
  • Hands-on exposure to prototype fabrication, machine design, welding, assembly, or industrial equipment operation.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA), engineering calculations, or other engineering software tools.

Why Join Us?

This role offers unprecedented insight into custom machinery design, product and automation development, prototype assembly and testing, and real-world manufacturing and fabrication practices. You will gain practical engineering experience coupled with mentorship from seasoned professionals, laying a strong groundwork for advancing towards professional engineering licensure (P.Eng.).
