About the Role
We are looking for a capable and experienced Purchasing and Logistics Manager to oversee all logistics, warehousing, inventory control, procurement, and material deployment activities for telecommunications infrastructure projects across Canada and the US. This role is based in Bedford, Nova Scotia, with required travel to project sites as needed.
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Internal Resources, this position ensures timely and efficient movement of materials, equipment, tools, and supplies critical for telecommunications network construction, including fibre optic deployments and wireless infrastructure. The manager collaborates with project managers and field teams to guarantee delivery of necessary resources while streamlining operations across several warehouse locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive logistics support for telecommunications infrastructure projects Canada-wide and in the US.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Construction Teams to deliver materials, equipment, and tools promptly to job sites.
- Develop and implement logistics strategies supporting fibre optic and other telecommunications constructions.
- Coordinate transportation services including freight, couriers, and inter-warehouse material transfers.
- Monitor project timelines and proactively detect potential logistical or material delivery risks.
- Support project mobilization and demobilization activities across multiple regions.
- Oversee safe and efficient operations at all company warehouse locations.
- Manage warehouse staff through recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance oversight.
- Maintain strict inventory control of telecommunications materials such as fibre optic components, network equipment, cabling, safety tools, and construction supplies.
- Conduct routine inventory audits, cycle counts, and reconciliations to uphold accuracy.
- Implement best practices in inventory management to reduce project delays and optimize stock levels.
- Standardize warehousing and material tracking procedures across various sites.
- Organize temporary warehousing solutions such as sea can storage for construction site material staging.
- Evaluate and fulfill site-specific storage and warehousing requirements.
- Manage site logistics to facilitate telecommunications crews working in diverse environments.
- Ensure temporary storage facilities comply with operational, safety, and security standards.
- Lead material staging and deployment planning during large-scale project mobilizations.
- Procure necessary materials, tools, consumables, and services supporting telecom construction and field operations.
- Sourcing and purchasing fibre optic materials, network components, construction supplies, and related equipment.
- Manage procurement for office and operational supplies.
- Obtain supplier quotes, negotiate prices, and nurture vendor relations.
- Monitor vendor performance to ensure punctual delivery of critical materials.
- Collaborate with project teams to forecast needs and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of inventory management, purchasing procedures, transportation logistics, and warehousing operations.
- Familiarity with telecommunications construction materials and infrastructure including fibre optics and wireless deployment is highly advantageous.
- Proficiency using ERP and inventory management software, along with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and ability to manage diverse stakeholder relationships.
Additional Requirements
- Clean driving record is mandatory.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Experience Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, warehousing, or procurement roles.
- Previous experience supporting telecommunications infrastructure, utility, construction, or project-based environments highly preferred.
- Experience in managing multiple warehouses and logistics teams.
- Proven track record of coordinating materials distribution for active construction projects.
- Valid driver's license with flexibility to travel across Canada and the US.
