Job Role Overview
This role involves overseeing daily restaurant operations, assisting in menu planning, upholding sanitation standards, and supporting servers and hosts during busy meal times. The manager is responsible for enhancing both guest and employee satisfaction while optimizing the restaurant’s financial performance. Identifying and addressing training needs is essential to achieving these objectives.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of four years’ experience in food and beverage, culinary arts, or related fields;
- OR a two-year degree from an accredited institution in Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or similar fields, coupled with at least two years’ relevant experience;
- Experience in a 5-Star luxury hotel setting is required.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all daily operations, including understanding employee roles sufficiently to cover their duties when absent;
- Maintain restaurant, bar/lounge, and room service sanitation and service standards;
- Ensure adequate staffing to meet guest service requirements, operational efficiency, and financial goals;
- Lead the food and beverage team by motivating, coaching, and fostering cooperation and mutual respect;
- Serve as a role model demonstrating integrity, sound decision-making, and professionalism;
- Identify team development opportunities and provide mentoring and training accordingly;
- Plan and prioritize departmental goals for maximum efficiency and effectiveness;
- Enforce compliance with all food and beverage policies, applicable laws, and health standards, including liquor laws and alcohol service regulations;
- Maintain open and collaborative relationships among employees and provide clear guidelines and expectations;
- Drive exceptional customer service by exceeding guest expectations, managing feedback, and continuously enhancing service delivery;
- Handle guest complaints promptly and effectively to ensure satisfaction and retention;
- Conduct informal meetings with guests during or after meals to obtain quality and service feedback;
- Oversee human resource functions including setting performance standards, monitoring staff performance, and ensuring fair and equitable treatment of employees;
- Develop and implement ongoing employee training to enhance guest service knowledge and retention strategies;
- Promote an open-door policy to gather employee feedback and address concerns;
- Recognize and reward employee achievements to foster motivation;
- Assist servers and hosts during peak periods as needed and supervise daily shifts in the absence of the Assistant Restaurant Manager;
- Manage departmental financial aspects such as purchasing and invoice payments;
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates through various channels;
- Analyze operational data to resolve problems and select optimal solutions;
- Ensure high-quality food presentation and product standards are consistently met.
