Role overview
The Senior Payroll Assistant will handle payroll operations and associated accounting work, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in line with requirements across multiple states and countries. The position partners closely with Human Resources and Accounting, and also serves as a contact point for employees and managers with payroll-related questions.
Key duties
- Manage monthly and semi-monthly payroll cycles for about 1,000 APAC employees by gathering, checking, and validating data in the HRIS platform.
- Make sure every payroll run is completed successfully without delays.
- Pay all employee compensation correctly and within the required timelines.
- Support strong internal controls and business continuity planning across payroll operations.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with employees, vendors, and internal partners.
- Coordinate payroll-related work with cross-functional teams such as Finance and HR.
- Keep payroll documentation well organized and aligned with retention requirements.
- Review payroll policies and processes, and identify ways to improve systems, efficiency, and the employee experience.
- Spot payroll errors or mismatches by gathering and analyzing relevant information.
- Handle year-end reconciliation and reporting tasks, including allowances, stock compensation, annual bonuses, fringe benefits, and W-2s.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations so payroll activity is accurately reflected in consolidated financial statements.
- Guide and support Payroll Assistants on payroll issues, reporting, taxes, and related topics.
Required experience and skills
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in administrative work or payroll support.
- Strong numerical accuracy and fast, precise data entry ability.
- Ability to handle confidential information with care and discretion.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, including professional business writing.
- Working knowledge of payroll rules, payroll procedures, and basic accounting principles.
- Good command of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred background
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
- At least 2 years of experience using HRIS systems in HR and/or payroll administration.
- Experience working with ADP Celergo.
Work location
This is a fully remote role and is open to candidates anywhere in Australia.
Compensation and benefits
The annual salary range for this position is AUD 72,100 to AUD 104,200. The final offer will depend on factors such as education, skills, work history, certifications, and location.
