Role Summary

The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) will be pivotal in developing and scaling automated testing infrastructure. Collaborating closely with the Automation Architect, QA engineers, and developers, the candidate will assess current frameworks, design new automation solutions, and guarantee comprehensive test coverage, thereby accelerating release cycles without compromising quality. This position is well suited for quality-focused engineers passionate about automation and eager to drive testing advancements within fast-paced Agile teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and sustain automated testing scripts covering UI, API, and database layers utilizing modern frameworks like Selenium, Playwright, and Cypress.
• Create extensive test suites comprising smoke, functional, regression, and integration tests for front-end GUIs, API endpoints, and databases.
• Maintain end-to-end regression suites that ensure dependable continuous deployment.
• Systematically identify and automate high-impact test cases to reduce manual testing efforts.
• Implement API testing strategies for SOAP and REST services leveraging tools such as Postman or RestAssured.
• Review and refine automation frameworks to enhance their maintainability, scalability, and performance.
• Offer automation recommendations to establish robust testing infrastructure outputs.
• Integrate test automation into CI/CD workflows using platforms like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.
• Assist in defining approaches for test data management, environment setup, and framework improvements in collaboration with the Test Architect.
• Adopt coding standards and automation best practices to deliver high-quality, maintainable scripts.
• Engage deeply with Agile teams, working with engineers and product managers throughout the software lifecycle.
• Ensure comprehensive testing of features each sprint, leveraging automation to maximize coverage.
• Execute and keep automated tests current to meet software release expectations and quality guidelines.
• Track, document, and manage defects thoroughly until resolution.
• Generate and analyze historical test data to inform process enhancements.
• Recommend improvements to test planning, execution processes, and overall quality standards.
• Collaborate with manual testers to promote automation adoption and share knowledge.
• Diagnose and resolve test failures, differentiating product bugs from test environment issues.

Qualifications and Experience

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related practical experience.
• Possess a minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in developing UI and API automation using open-source testing tools.
• Demonstrated experience operating within Agile/Scrum software development environments.
• Proficient in UI automation frameworks including Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar.
• Experienced in API testing of SOAP and RESTful services using Postman, RestAssured, or comparable frameworks.
• Strong Object-Oriented Programming capabilities and solid scripting or programming skills in JavaScript/TypeScript or languages like Python, C#, or Java.
• Background testing web applications developed with .NET, C#, Java, ASP, XML, or related tech.
• Familiar with source control tools such as Git, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
• Experienced with CI/CD platforms like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.
• Excellent debugging and systematic troubleshooting skills.
• Understands QA fundamentals, including black-box testing, test design techniques, and quality metrics within Agile settings.
• Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and learns new tools swiftly.
• Flexible to work overlapping US time zones with a minimum of 4 hours overlap and available during EST hours for sprint cycles occurring biweekly.

Preferred Skills and Additional Expertise

• Advanced proficiency in SQL for database verification and validation.
• Familiarity with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber or SpecFlow.
• Knowledge of TDD processes.
• Experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS (services like EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS).
• Utilization of test management tools like Jira, Zephyr, or TestRail.
• Hands-on with performance testing tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner.
• Working knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Understanding of security testing practices and relevant tooling.
• Experience with API testing tools such as Karate.
• Familiarity with mocking frameworks and strategies for test data management.
