Team Lead Import Operations

Position Overview

The Team Lead for Import Operations is tasked with guiding a team of freight forwarding specialists to ensure smooth processing of international import and export shipments. The position emphasizes operational excellence, team development, customer satisfaction, and strict adherence to regulatory and company standards.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and nurture a group of Import/Export Operators and Customer Service Coordinators.
• Manage complete international shipment workflows involving air, sea, and road freight.
• Maintain service quality, operational efficiency, and compliance with both internal protocols and external regulations.
• Track shipment statuses and proactively address operational issues and customer complaints.
• Organize workload allocation and resource planning within the team.
• Establish and sustain strong partnerships with clients, carriers, agents, and internal departments.
• Promote continuous improvement efforts to optimize operations and service quality.
• Assist in deploying new procedures, systems, and industry best practices.
• Evaluate operational Key Performance Indicators and implement corrective measures as needed.
• Support the accomplishment of departmental and corporate goals.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Multiple years in freight forwarding operations focusing on imports and/or exports.
• Background in a leadership role such as Team Lead, Supervisor, or Senior Operations Specialist.
• Comprehensive knowledge of international freight forwarding, customs processes, and transportation regulations.
• Experience handling customer relationships and managing escalations effectively.
• Excellent organizational abilities coupled with strong problem-solving skills.

• Leadership experience with a management-oriented mindset.
• Familiarity with freight forwarding software like CargoWise or comparable Transportation Management Systems.
• Expertise in process improvement and operational best practices.
