Team overview
The Emerging Markets group is made up of more than 30 portfolio managers working out of New York, London, Geneva, and Singapore. The team handles a broad mix of instruments, with a focus on rates, FX, credit, and other derivatives, trading across Asia, CEMEA, and Latin America to capture opportunities driven by market themes.
In Singapore, the desk includes over 10 seasoned portfolio managers with a strong history of trading EM Asia macro strategies.
Role summary
This position offers the chance to work side by side with portfolio managers while also dealing directly with market makers and sales professionals.
Key duties
- Track market activity, find the best available liquidity, and execute trades on behalf of portfolio managers.
- Share market insight, flag important headlines, and call out market-moving developments that may affect trading decisions.
- Enter and confirm trades, monitor positions, and maintain accurate position records in the system.
- Coordinate between the trading desk, middle and back office teams, and outside counterparties.
- Take ownership of projects that help improve the desk’s efficiency whenever they come up.
Experience and profile
- Prior exposure to sales or trading roles at sell-side banks, or execution-focused roles at buy-side firms, with a solid grasp of EM Asia rates and FX market behaviour.
- A degree from a well-regarded university and a clear interest in investment products, especially rates, FX, and derivatives.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities at once, stay organized, and manage several tasks simultaneously.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a disciplined approach to checks and process controls.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for ongoing coordination with portfolio managers, support teams, and counterparties.
- Good analytical ability and strong Excel skills, including building spreadsheets for ad hoc work and efficiency improvements.
- Comfort working independently, with the expectation to take on broader responsibilities over time while receiving guidance from the desk.
