Role Overview

The Traffic Controller position based in New South Wales involves directing vehicle and pedestrian flow safely around work zones using signage, barriers, and communication tools. Responsibilities include installation, supervision, and dismantling of traffic control devices, verifying plans and permits, performing site inspections, and identifying/reporting any hazards or incidents. Collaboration with supervisors and site personnel is essential to adhere to traffic management protocols and respond promptly to dynamic site conditions or emergencies. The role demands professional conduct, precise record keeping, and effective communication with road users, neighbors, and contractors.

Candidate Qualifications and Skills

• Ability to interpret traffic control plans and safely install/remove signage and barriers.
• Awareness of site safety, hazard recognition, risk reduction, and compliance with workplace health and safety legislation.
• Effective communication and coordination with site supervisors, team members, motorists, and local residents via radio and direct interaction.
• Competence in incident reporting, supporting emergency responses, and following procedural guidelines during unexpected situations.
• Strong time management skills, dependability, and endurance to maintain concentration outdoors in varying weather and shift schedules.
• Possession of valid New South Wales traffic control accreditation/certification and a current driver’s license is highly valued.
• Previous experience in traffic management, construction, civil engineering projects, or related health and safety fields is advantageous.
• Physical capability to stand for long durations, correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply fully with safety gear protocols.
