About the role
SYSTRA India is expanding its transport modelling capability to support international demand across the UK/Ireland, Middle East, and Australia. This opportunity is for transport planning professionals with micro-simulation experience who want to grow in a fast-moving and ambitious environment. The role is based in Chennai, with Bangalore considered as a preferred location; remote or hybrid working may also be possible.
The position is suited to candidates from civil engineering, transportation, or infrastructure backgrounds who are keen to contribute to better transport systems and urban infrastructure efficiency.
What you will do
- Build, calibrate, and validate micro-simulation models.
- Create and develop pedestrian modelling solutions.
- Review and interpret model outputs and results.
- Pick up new methods, tools, and software as required.
- Prepare clear and professional technical reports.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline such as transport planning, transport engineering, or civil engineering.
- Typically 5 to 10 years of relevant experience; applicants with slightly more experience may also be considered.
- Hands-on experience with micro-simulation tools such as VISSIM, VISWALK, PARAMICS, or AIMSUN.
- Working knowledge of TfL and UK transport modelling standards, including auditing processes such as VMAP and LMAP.
- Strong ability in data analysis, spreadsheets, databases, and problem-solving.
- Practical use of Python, R, Visual Basic for Applications, or similar tools for analysis and data processing.
- Comfortable using GIS and other data analytics/mapping tools, with the ability to interpret quantitative transport models.
- Experience presenting and documenting model findings.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to support and mentor junior team members.
Preferred experience
- Exposure to junction modelling software such as LINSIG, ARCADY, or PICADY.
- Familiarity with strategic modelling platforms such as SATURN, VISUM, CUBE, or EMME.
- Knowledge of economic appraisal tools including TUBA, COBALT, or QUADRO.
