About the Role
We are looking for a knowledgeable UI/UX Designer to join our team in Reston, VA. This role supports the customer's External Services Directorate and demands a blend of creative design skills with practical user experience expertise. The position offers flexible teleworking options; however, candidates must reside within commuting distance of Arlington, VA, as in-office presence once a week is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop user experience designs and interfaces tailored for government service platforms.
- Efficiently craft detailed process flows, wireframes, and visual designs to clearly communicate interaction behaviors.
- Maintain comprehensive user interface specifications throughout project development.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to assess objectives, needs, and core values of the platform.
- Incorporate insights and feedback from CIGIE/US Government Client OIG/IG Community experts at various stages.
- Apply U.S. government design standards extensively to maximize consistency.
- Minimize custom coding to promote seamless knowledge transfer and reduce maintenance costs within the organization.
- Present multiple design concepts to key government points of contact when major design decisions arise.
Candidate Requirements
- Design user-centered interfaces for software by integrating continuous customer input.
- Architect UI structure, interfaces, and interaction flows for both web and device applications.
- Evaluate and create detailed interaction models, user flows, and screen designs enhancing usability.
- Translate complex concepts and requirements into clear visual workflows and designs.
- Work collaboratively with developers and project managers to guarantee design implementation meets user goals.
- Create user interface specifications and wireframes; adapt quickly from ideation to execution, presenting options to stakeholders.
- Engage in usability testing and validation of personal and team design functions.
- Innovate interactive graphics to enhance accessibility and engagement with collected data.
- Optimize user navigation paths to ensure quick access to destinations with minimal clicks.
- Update and modernize graphics, typography, and design elements for contemporary aesthetics.

Experience and Knowledge
- At least five years’ experience in user experience design, interaction design, or information architecture.
- A thorough grasp of User Interface design principles and processes.
- Proven proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent design software.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap frameworks.
- Basic JavaScript programming skills.
- Familiarity with CSS preprocessors such as Less and Sass.
- Understanding of responsive design techniques and touch interface interactions, aligned with current standards.
- Aware of the limitations and possibilities within web and mobile platforms with innovative approaches to optimize them.
- Portfolio showcasing strong user-focused designs across multiple screen sizes and interfaces.
Additional Information
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens capable of obtaining a Position of Public Trust clearance.
- Candidates should not have traveled outside the U.S. for more than six months in total during the past five years and must have resided continuously in the U.S. throughout that period.
