Role Overview

BJ’s Wholesale Club is seeking a Utility Clerk to help keep the club clean, safe, and well maintained for members and team members. Key Duties

• Keep all club areas clean, including the sales floor, offices, restrooms, outdoor spaces, and parking lot.
• Collect carts and flatbeds from the parking lot and return them to the entrance for member convenience.
• Remove trash and debris from cart corrals, parking areas, and the exterior of the club.
• Ensure carts are stocked at the entrance, clean, and in working condition; remove damaged carts from use.
• Return unused or new merchandise back to the sales floor.
• Carry out cleaning and maintenance work such as mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, carpet extraction, glass cleaning, trash removal, and pallet handling.
• Maintain outdoor areas such as sidewalks, cart corrals, and exterior trash receptacles.
• Prioritize cleaning and maintenance tasks efficiently across the club.
• Safely operate equipment such as the floor scrubber, trash compactor, and cardboard baler according to safety standards.
• Restock cleaning and maintenance supplies and keep supply areas tidy and organized.
• Handle minor building repairs and alert management if larger repairs are needed.
• Follow all club policies and procedures.
• Support other departments when assigned and complete additional tasks as needed.
• Maintain regular and predictable full attendance, which is required for this role.

Qualifications

• Completion of the required training and certification process is mandatory.
• Previous janitorial or maintenance experience is helpful but not essential.
• Retail or wholesale background is preferred.
• Applicants under 18 may perform parking lot cart duties; however, equipment operation and age-restricted areas require candidates to be at least 18 years old.

Working Conditions

• Most work is performed while moving around on hard surfaces.
• The job may require frequent bending, climbing, crawling, pulling, reaching, stooping, and use of ladders or step stools.
• Regular lifting of items up to 30 pounds is required.
• Heavier or awkward items above 30 pounds may need to be moved with help.
• A pallet jack is used for moving pallets.
• Frequent contact with company-approved cleaning products is expected.
• Occasional exposure to paint and other approved chemicals may occur.
• Work may involve indoor and outdoor temperature changes, including occasional extreme cold in freezers and coolers.
• Outdoor weather exposure is part of the job.
