Role overview

Sodexo is looking for a Baker to join the team at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In this full-time, on-site role, you’ll prepare a range of baked goods using recipes and production standards while maintaining Sodexo’s quality expectations for taste, appearance, and consistency.

Work schedule and pay

This position involves varying shifts and varying days/hours; open availability is preferred. Shift details will be shared during the interview. Pay is $7.25 to $23.44 per hour.

What you’ll do

• Review daily production plans and use Sodexo recipes to make breads, rolls, muffins, biscuits, cakes, pastries, and other scratch-made baked items.
• Measure ingredients carefully, mix doughs and batters by hand or mixer, shape and cut dough, and bake items to the required standard.
• Control oven settings, track baking times, and make sure products are prepared, held, and served at the proper temperatures.
• Prepare and replenish the bake shop area, while keeping storage, rotation, labeling, dating, cleanliness, and organization in order.
• Maintain strong attention to detail, handle special requests, and release only high-quality baked items.
• Carry out additional tasks as needed based on client or business requirements.
• Meet the physical demands of the job, including significant walking, standing for long periods, frequent use of hands and arms, and the ability to reach, bend, stoop, push, pull, and taste or smell as part of the work.
• Be able to stand or walk throughout the full shift, which may be longer than 8 hours.
• Be able to frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Report to work on time and maintain dependable attendance.

What you bring

• A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• 0 to 1 year of related work experience.
• Prior experience in a specialized bakery or pastry setting is preferred.
